I have to say, it’s been a beautifully warm fall here in northwest Minnesota, but the leaves have started turning and gently falling from the trees. The air is getting crisper, especially at night and in the early mornings—fall is definitely in the air! Fall is my favorite season, and it’s not because of pumpkin spice (I’m not a fan). What I love most are the smells! There’s nothing better than walking into a house filled with the warm scents of apple or pumpkin pie—it’s so cozy.
This is the time of year when I get really excited because I can finally get back to baking! Farming keeps me busy in the summer, but now I have time to whip up my buckwheat pie crust, einkorn pizza crust, emmer chocolate chip cookies, and try out new recipes.
Speaking of baking, I’d love to hear from you! What’s a recipe you’d like me to try using fresh-milled flour? Let me know, and I’ll give it a go and share the results with you!
Fall on the farm reminds us that change is a good thing. After a busy spring, summer, and early fall, this season gives us time to reflect, make adjustments, and prepare for the new year, which is just around the corner. Soon, we’ll be getting ready for Thanksgiving, Christmas baking, and hosting family feasts for Christmas and New Year’s. I cherish this time of year because it’s all about family. Our middle child, Morgan, will be home for the whole Christmas break this year since her job is now remote. It’s likely the last time she’ll spend such an extended period with us, so we’re going to soak up every moment and fill the kitchen with love and laughter.
As we gear up for the holiday season, I’d love to know—what’s your favorite holiday tradition or dish? Share with us! And stay tuned, because I’ll be sharing my new favorites—homemade potpourri and fresh-milled flour holiday recipes—soon!
